Choosing an awning shouldn’t feel like homework. Answer these five simple questions and you’ll be most of the way to knowing what suits you.
1. How will you use the space?
A table and chairs for family meals needs more projection than a spot for two chairs and a morning coffee. Think about what you want to fit underneath, then add room to move around it. Our size guide explains how. Before we take an order for any Weinor or Saffron Signature awning, we always carry out a site survey to make sure the size is right for what it needs to do.
2. Which way does your garden face?
The direction of the sun affects how much shade you need and where. If yours is a sunny, south-facing garden, see our guide to the best awning for a south-facing garden.
3. Manual or motorised?
Manual awnings generally cost less. Motorised ones are easier to use, and can be fitted with a wind sensor. Neither is better in every case. Read our honest comparison.
4. How much protection do you want for the awning itself?
Some awnings are open designs. Others are cassette models, where the fabric folds away inside a housing when closed. We’ll talk you through the options for your home, and our guide to full cassette, half-cassette and open awnings compares the styles and models.
5. What suits your home’s style?
Frame colour and fabric make a big difference. We have over 170 fabric options on our Weinor awnings and 50+ on our Saffron Signature range, and we’ll bring samples to your home so you can see them in your own light. Browse our Weinor awnings and Saffron Signature range.
What about cost, and an awning versus something else?
See how much an awning costs, and if you’re still deciding between types of cover, our guides to awnings and pergolas and awnings and verandas will help.
Still not sure? That’s completely normal. The best way to decide is to see the options and talk it through. Visit our showroom, or book a free design consultation and site survey →
