How Big Should My Awning Be?

Choosing the right awning size matters. When it’s the right fit, you’ll enjoy better shade, improved weather protection and a stylish finish that enhances your outdoor space.

A good rule of thumb: aim for your awning to extend at least 0.5 m on each side (that’s 1 m extra width overall). This extra coverage helps block low-angle sunlight, and it helps protect your patio against rain or wind-driven drifts.

Why Add Extra Width?

1. Enhanced Sun Protection: As the sun moves during the day, the extra width keeps you covered.
2. Better weather defence: A wider awning helps shield against rain or sideways gusts.
3. Visual balance: A slightly larger awning visually anchors your space and looks more premium.

How to Measure for Your Awning:

1. Measure the width of your door or opening.
2. Add about 1 m in total width – for example, if the door is 2 m wide, consider a 3–4 m wide awning.
3. Think about projection (how far it should extend). A minimum 3 m projection works well for dining or seating under the awning. Larger projections give even more coverage and flexibility.

Mounting Height of the Awning

The mounting height of the awning refers to the height at which it is fixed on the wall. This height is determined by the projection chosen to ensure proper clearance and functionality.

• Recommended Pitch: It is advisable to install the awning with a 15-degree pitch to allow water to run off effectively, preventing pooling on the fabric.

For a front rail height of 2.1 meters when the awning is fully extended, the recommended mounting heights are as follows:

• 2m Projection: 2.4m mounting height
• 2.5m Projection: 2.5m mounting height
• 3m Projection: 2.6m mounting height
• 3.5m Projection: 2.7m mounting height
• 4m Projection: 2.8m mounting height
